All of this makes for an impressive presentation on one the best family-sized fastback designs ever to come from detroit. But more than just a fine presentation, those modern billet specialties wheels fill the fenders most excellently, with a modern aggressive stance, and it hints at all the upgrades beneath the surface. The red stripe package on the outside was just a teaser for the bold red interior. There was plenty invested here to get this fairlane back to the day it left the atlanta factory. The seats, door panels, carpeting, headliner, and dash all have a terrific period-correct and uniform appearance that is unmistakably '60s with all its bright red, and even brighter trim. Plus, everyone will stay comfortable thanks to modern r134a air conditioning. The large horizontal speedometer is bright and clear, and to supplement it, a set of auxiliary dials watching voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature was fitted underneath. And since we're all getting a good look at this 351 cubic-inch windsor v8, it has been dressed nicely with just about every component polished from the ford racing valve covers, to the air grabber with correct callout sticker on top. But more than just big power, this is also a thoughtful build. A mustang ii independent front suspension with tubular a-arms and a thick sway bar were added up front for a superior feeling. For the next 20 years, they all looked pretty much the same. Then came the mid-fifties and style became king - every year, a brand new look. The style of the 1957 ford fairlane was a radical departure from earlier models. They were longer, lower, wider and sported rear fins - albeit not as large as their counterparts down the street. This fairlane 500 two-door post is a great example of 1957 performance and style. It is powered by a numbers-matching 'big-block' 312 cid thunderbird v8. A two-speed ford-o-matic transmission drives a stock rear differential. The exterior has had a total re-spray of 2-tone red/white and looks great. Kelsey hayes wire-wheels, wide-whites and fender skirts provide nice accents. Both front and rear clips have received some minor customization. It is said that ford produced 8 cars with those fenders. .. It certainly does not appear to be an after-market conversion set-up. The grill and bumpers are also different from stock. The interior is in overall very good condition. Seats have been reupholstered in red/white vinyl. Finding replacement body/interior parts for models the late '50's fords can be difficult as there are just not a lot of them out there. However, this fairlane 500 is superb and has no such needs. It is original except for a repaint in 2009 (factory colors of turquoise and white) and a new white top that is power operated. White walls are mounted on steel wheels with factory correct hubcaps. The interior is original and in excellent condition. This fairlane is powered by the optional 352ci interceptor v8 rated at 300hp with 10. 2:1 compression and holley 4v carburation. This was the engine that powered the '58 thunderbird and the largest engine available in the fairlane 500 line-up. These fords were a radical departure from earlier designs - longer, wider and much more stylish than any previous model. The professional restoration (2008-2011) is fully documented with receipts and photos of the entire process. Judging by the early photos, the car that rolled into the restoration shop was nice even before work began, but the end result is stunning. All aspects of the body are straight and true. The raven black paint looks better than any factory paint job. All chrome is either new or re-chromed original. The wheels are 14' x 5 thunderbird chrome wire wheels (w/ spinners) supplied by coker tires. They mount p205/75r14 ww vintage radials, also supplied by coker tire. The wheel/tire package cost more than this new fairlane 500 did in 1957. The interior has been completely restored to factory appearance with 'gold basket weave and black sculptured fabric' and air conditioning has been added. We have receipts for all of the work done to the 312ci thunderbird v8. Professional machine work was performed on the block with a . 030 overbore, new cam, bearings, pistons, polished crank and headwork. The carburetor is the ford/autolite/holley 4100 4v. This motor sounds great and is probably pushing out more than the original 245bhp. Likewise, the two-speed ford-o-matic transmission and stock differential were completely rebuilt, as were the power steering components and all elements of the suspension. Back in the day this was the kind of car that didn't get much of a glance, but now people will marvel at how well preserved it is. The first step to getting noticed is a very careful restoration that includes paintwork that's a more modern and shiny application, but it stays close to this falcon's original turquoise. It adds some brightness to the coupe body that's highlighted by the wide grille, wider bumpers, long side trim, and factory hub caps. It's just the right amount of brightwork to really make these little cruiser look special. Inside, the gold interior with comfortable gold weave insert is a great color for representing the '60s. The front bench seat is something that would have been replaced on a restomod, but that wouldn't be right on this one. Instead, it is a near perfect time machine going back to the days when the entire family would have rather sat in the front than had the open road obscured from the back seat. Just like any good 1960's car, this sea of gold has coordinating hues across the door panels, dash, and steering wheel. All of this feels very original right down to the heater controls. The inline-six motor has the kind of honest appearance that people love at car shows these days. Brightened up with a fresh coat of ford blue paint on the block and air cleaner, this one will attract more attention than the chrome v8s in the show field. But this falcon isn't being completely honest. So this lightweight falcon has a nice amount of extra spring in its step going down the road. We were very plesently surprised at how peppy it is (even better than some v8's!). After all, at this affordable price, it could be headed to a movie studio any day now. There has even been a cool investment in reproduction bf goodrich slivertown tires for the front, and firestone cheater slicks to make this a true period-correct street-eating machine. But more than just rarity, it also is still a premium fairlane at heart. Open the door to what is still believed to be original seating and many other original components. These cars came from the factory with only one mission – win everything on the street and strip. So ford purposely made sure that it could save weight wherever it could. This fairlane's lavishness was meant to be measured by how many trophies it brought home. Remove the lightweight hood to reveal the beast that makes this ford so legendary. That r-code 427 cubic-inch side oiler v8 barely fit in between the wheels, and this factory custom instantly made these ford one of the rarest cars around. The block was rebuilt last year by the masters at ralph conners, utilizing a 12/21/65 casting. This means great period-correct authenticity mixed with exceptional reliability. There was a ton more invested in going beyond just the motor to restore this ultra-rare ford. But as great as it is to appreciate the history, this coupe was really made to drive. Front disc brakes were even part of the original package just to keep this ferocious fairlane under control.

In fact, the demand is so high for these coupes that there are now fiberglass re-creations out there. That makes us happy to say this an original, steel bodied, 1939 that received a thorough restoration and all the right upgrades. Inside it feels like no expense was spared to give this businessman's coupe plenty of real modern conveniences. The single bench seat up front was upgraded to two modern leather buckets, but those who need a kind of drive-in closeness to the passenger could utilize rear bench (a rarity in business coupes.) the driver gets a highly stylized chrome and wood steering wheel with the ford v8 logo prominently in the center. Even the air conditioning controls have a vintage appearance, and it runs modern r134a to blow ice cold. Under the hood, the original ford flathead v8 was swapped out for something with substantially more power and turn key reliability. This crate motor is known for offering plenty of power, and modern reliability... It's stout enough to handle all the extra power, and the overdrive gear makes it an easy highway cruiser. While we've been making plenty of mustang comparisons to this falcon, the easiest one is under the hood. The c-code 289 cubic-inch v8 is the same motor that made ford's pony car famous. It looks great in this falcon with the chrome air cleaner and aluminum valve covers against a fantastically tidy presentation. More than just show and go, this coupe has invested in good fundamentals like an aluminum radiator and newer stainless dual exhaust for plenty of worry-free miles to come. Plus, there have been investments in items like new control arms, modern tires, and other items to make this a great vintage road machine.
