That's why we're very excited to see an ultra-low mileage car that's well preserved in its original fiery red. The exceptional price is just the cherry on top. Red convertibles are always a good investment, and this one is still wearing most of its original blaze red paint. But what we really love about these second-generation cars is that mazda offered a european exotic level of design, while still retaining the japanese build quality. So, the headlights fit flush against the body; the black folding roof remains taut; and the 15-inch factory bbs wheels appear to have never done a parking lot battle. Black leather always looks terrific against a bright red exterior. So, the premium bucket seats are still deep, dark, and smooth. Plus, the carpeting, door panels, and dash are also just as nice. But more than just a pure sports machine, the rx-7 was mazda's flagship car, and so there are plenty of luxury features. It includes power locks, cruise control, and the factory am/fm/cd/cassette stereo. This was specially engineered to be a quite thoughtful convertible. A truly unique touch piece are the stereo speakers in the headrests. What makes the rx-7 a unique sports car is the revolutionary two-rotor wankel engine. No pistons, no crankshaft, no valves -- just a pair of triangular rotors inside a beer-keg-sized housing. The design is compact, efficient, and could provide the same power as its six and eight-cylinder competitors. But its true hallmark is that it can happily spin to 7,000 rpm (and likely beyond) with incredible smoothness. We believe this is the original motor, and such low mileage also means an amazing engine presentation. All the plated parts are still shiny, the rubber components are supple, and even the original decals are seen everywhere. But just because this is so well preserved, it would be a shame not to take it out on the road. The slick paint combines with the tinted windows and blacker-out taillight panel to create a truly sinister appearance. As slippery as this coupe looks, it's also a bright standout. After all, the ccw 18-inch polished alloys radiate any light around this custom build, and they serve a higher performance purpose with its swissed lightened construction. Open the door, and this is an instant reminder that this mazda was rebuilt for performance. The recaro bucket seats are a racing icon, and they are there for more than just show. But even with all these race-ready components, this is far more than just a track car. Under the hood is a serious upgrade. The corvette's 5. 7-liter ls1 v8 has been expertly transplanted into the engine bay. This fuel-injected american hero has been rebuilt less than 2,000 miles ago and fortified with ported z06 heads, diamond pistons, custom camshaft, ls2 rods, arp bolts, clevite bearings, cloyest timing gear & chain, 10. 22:1 compression, and jtr headers that feed the dual exhaust. The full package makes around 392 horsepower, which is a major upgrade over the '93 rx-7's original 225 hp. That makes this lightweight coupe a true rocket ship, and that's why the rest of the components were upgraded to optimize all the added power. 1988 mazda rx-7 coupe - #2260the second-generation rx-7 fc was launched in 1986. Mazda focused on the porsche 944 for inspiration, hoping to capitalize on porsche's template for success in america. The rx-7 convertible came along two years after the launch of the hatchback coupe. Apparently mazda engineers had conceived the possibility of a convertible during the early design phases of the fc. Mazda elected to build the convertibles in-house at their factory rather than shipping coupes to an aftermarket supplier to hack off the roofs and make roadsters. As a result, the fit 20 years later is light years ahead of some of mazda's competition. The current owner has been a careful caretaker for the last 25 years (2-owner car). The mileage of 147k is somewhat misleading as the 1. 3l rotary engine was replaced with a brand new unit at 99k miles and a partial restoration was completed in 2015. The sunrise red re-spray was carefully applied and has been very well maintained. Nice factory 'bbs-style' alloys accent the exterior. The interior has been reupholstered in high-grade gray vinyl and looks better than the original. Dash, carpeting, and door cards show little wear and are also in good condition. Convenience features include: a/c, am/fm/cassette stereo, cruise, and power convertible top.
